New Edition of Media Literacy in the K-12 Classroom from ISTE Released Today
WASHINGTON, D.C. (PRWEB) November 01, 2016 -- With today’s average youth spending more than 10 hours every day consuming media, building media literacy skills is more important than ever before. Today, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) released the second edition of Media Literacy in the K-12 Classroom, by Frank W. Baker, to help K-12 educators and school library media specialists understand the importance of teaching media literacy and give them tools to teach it in the classroom.
Published in 2012, the first edition of the book received high praise. Jonathan Friesem wrote in the Journal of Media Literacy Education, “[Baker] provides research and examples to show not only the importance of media literacy education, but also the effortlessness of its application.”
The new edition is updated and expanded to include:
• An appendix with more than 80 author-recommended resources.
• Fresh insights from respected educators and experts.
• Media literacy lesson plans.
• Guiding questions, exercises and checklists for deconstructing media messages.
Frank W. Baker is a K–12 media educator who has conducted hundreds of workshops with teachers and students. He created the website Media Literacy Clearinghouse in 1998 to help educators find appropriate resources for teaching about media and media literacy. Since then, the site has been internationally recognized and continues to be a valuable resource for educators.
