Author Owen O’Brien’s New Book “Duke: Before I Forget” is a Riveting Memoir Covering Over Eight Decades of a Remarkable New York Life
(PRWEB) July 17, 2017 -- Owen O’Brien, an eighty-five-year-old New Yorker with many stories to tell, has completed his new book “Duke: Before I Forget”: a scintillating memoir of a vibrant and exciting New York life.
This is a book about a New Yorker who grew up in Harlem and then Queens, New York. He was taught to gamble by his grandmother, attending many schools before being sent to a Catholic school where he met Jimmy “the Gent” Burke of the “Good Fellows” movie and John Gotti, mob boss. Then he spent time in show business with a team of acrobats, time in the service, time with the Korean dancing girls and a short Japanese love affair. Then the book tells about his life of gambling. He was a good friend of the Rat Pack, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, and Peter Lawford. In Las Vegas, he knew almost every celebrity that played there. Readers will find out about the many women in his life and his association with Rocky Marciano and their construction company. He knew what Rocky was like after retirement. He was one of the first to buy land to build a hotel and casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This land would later be where Trump Castle was built. He also had John Scarne, the author of the books on gambling, as a friend who taught him to be a card counter in blackjack. Some of the highlights of his life also include his time in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Owen O’Brien’s entertaining autobiography offers a riveting glimpse of New York in the first half of the twentieth century, military life during the Korean War, and Las Vegas in its Rat Pack heyday.
