iUrban Teen Launches New Skilled Trades Initiative
PORTLAND, Ore. (PRWEB) December 13, 2017 -- Not-for-profit STEM education program iUrban Teen launches its new skilled trades initiative at “iTrades Career Day” on February 24, 2018 at the NECA-IBEW Training Center in Portland, OR. Also named iTrades, the newest program recognizes that the skilled trades are among the highest paying occupations in the United States today. As a result, iUrban Teen has partnered with northwest-based Electrical Workers Union, IBEW 48, for its iTrades launch event.
“Jobs in the skilled trades space are clearly a lucrative career path for many economically disadvantaged youths of color to pursue,” said iUrban Teen founder, Deena Pierott. “The iTrades initiative joins our other pillar programs to promote and host awareness-raising events like our upcoming iTrades Career Day built around STEM-related careers.”
Under the iTrades banner, those currently working in skilled trades can showcase their professions as well as mentor and encourage students of color to prepare for career opportunities in skilled trades and technology. They will also share local apprenticeship programs in the Portland Metro area.
“iTrades Career Day,” which runs from 9:00 AM- 2:30 PM, will cover six interactive and information workshops, free to middle and high school students in the Portland area. To register for this event, go to http://itradespdx.eventbride.com.
