Northcentral University Partners with TeacherReady® to Offer Faster Path to Master of Arts in Teaching
SAN DIEGO (PRWEB) December 15, 2017 -- Northcentral University (NCU) announced today a fast track to continued education for TeacherReady® certified individuals by expanding access to the university’s advanced degrees. NCU’s 100% online Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree program will provide a gateway for TeacherReady certified educators interested in growing their professional expertise, and provide the educators with a nine-credit-hour transfer and 10 percent reduction off of current tuition rates.
TeacherReady is an online teacher certification program for college graduates who don't have an education degree, but want to work in the education sector. NCU’s MAT program will serve as a continuing education option for TeacherReady graduates looking to earn an advanced teaching degree quickly. The MAT program’s flexibility, including no entrance exams and weekly course starts, means potential higher pay and additional skills for the classroom will be firmly within reach for the professionals who want to help others learn and grow.
“TeacherReady enables people in any career to pursue a role in education, and now, NCU will help these certified teachers become the most desirable candidate for the position of their dreams,” states NCU School of Education Dean John Neal, EdD. “As the demand for teachers continues to increase, and turnover among educators continues to be a challenge, innovative programs like this offer the professional development, support and flexibility that the field requires.”
NCU’s MAT is aligned with the standards of The Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium, and consists of five core courses and three specialization courses. Specializations include Athletic Coaching, Curriculum and Teaching, Early Childhood Education, E-Learning, English as a Second Language, Reading Education, Special Education, and Sport and Athletic Management.
“For alumni who have earned their TeacherReady certification, this is an opportunity to continue growing and advancing in their chosen field,” says Dr. Sarah Miller, Director of Student Services for TeacherReady. “Providing access to this important profession is core to our mission, and we’re excited by the increased opportunities for our graduates that this partnership provides.”
Eligibility for NCU’s MAT program requires teaching certification completion through TeacherReady or a similar alternative teacher certification program. Upon admission, NCU will award TeacherReady graduates nine transfer credits, which, when combined with 24 credit hours of NCU coursework, allow the student to meet the required 33 total credits to be awarded the MAT.
