David Meismer’s New Book “Jim Daves Alaska Memories” is an Absorbing Tale About a Young Man’s Dreams of Moving to Alaska
SALCHA, Alaska (PRWEB) March 15, 2018 -- David Meismer, a native of Northern Minnesota who went to Duluth Trade School for welding, after which he found a job as a steel fabrication worker in Proctor, Minnesota, has completed his new book “Jim Daves Alaska Memories”: a memoir featuring astounding characters and landscapes in the Alaskan setting.
Author Meismer reflects on following one’s dreams no matter how impossible they may seem: “When we decided to head back to the Nowitna, it was −30. We gassed up the plane using a shammy (thin piece of leather) to strain any ice crystals from the gas. We loaded a 55 gal. drum of gas in the back and piled what we could around it and on top. The next morning we proceeded to take off. He gunned it and the plane turned down the runway okay but kept on turning, he gunned it some more and it wouldn’t respond. We ran into two other aircrafts then a flag pole, nobody got hurt but the plane was totaled. We weren’t overloaded, but FAA said we may have had too much weight in the tail end or a chunk of ice may have been wedged where it didn’t belong. Nothing positive was determined. Loading the plane like we did and taking off was a common practice. We couldn’t go back to the Nowitna River to get supplies until seven years later when I went there by river boat on a moose-hunting trip and some of the supplies were still there.”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, David Meismer’s astounding story is an inspiration to people looking for adventure, thrill, and enjoyment that every wandering fellow will appreciate.
