Women’s Dermatologic Society to Offer Skin Cancer Screenings
MILWAUKEE (PRWEB) May 07, 2018 -- Anyone can get skin cancer, regardless of ethnicity or age. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, it is estimated that 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. When caught early, skin cancer is highly treatable.
The Women’s Dermatologic Society’s (WDS) award-winning Play Safe in the Sun Program works at curbing the incidence of skin cancer by providing free skin cancer screenings, sun damage assessments, sun safety educational materials, and complimentary sunscreen samples to the public. To date, the Play Safe in the Sun Program has hosted almost 60 events, screened over 4,850 people, and distributed over 350,000 sunscreen samples!
“Prevention is the KEY and we are extremely excited about our upcoming outreach efforts through our WDS Play Safe in the Sun campaign. We will be hosting several big events across the country and providing skin cancer screenings, education, and free sunscreen through our partnership with La Roche-Posay,” stated Dr. Ashley Wysong, WDS Service Committee Chair.
Successfully managing exposure to ultraviolet radiation could prevent more than three million cases of skin cancer each year. Our goal is to raise awareness among the running community that prolonged outdoor running requires special attention to sun safety. Early detection saves lives.
“Sun safe habits are so important in maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle, and this partnership between local WDS board-certified dermatologists, La Roche-Posay, and the various event organizations offers an incredible service to men and women participating in each event.” Stated Dr. Laurin Council, WDS Board Member and Service Committee volunteer.
