National Survey from Dropoff Demonstrates Same-Day Delivery is Key to Retailers' Holiday Strategies
AUSTIN, Texas (PRWEB) June 27, 2018 -- As the retail industry becomes increasingly competitive for shoppers’ attention nationwide, same-day delivery industry leader Dropoff today announced the findings of its third-annual Holiday Survey.
The national survey revealed that consumers are more concerned about gifts being delivered on-time than in 2017. Yet 77% plan to do last minute shopping - a 15% increase compared to last year. Over half of holiday shoppers are more likely to purchase gifts from retailers that offer same-day delivery, and 42% of consumers say that same-day delivery is particularly valuable when purchasing holiday gifts.
With more anticipated last minute shopping this season, retailers should note that those who shop last minute are 78% more likely to purchase gifts from companies that offer same-day delivery compared to those who don’t.
“Going into the 2018 holiday shopping season, it’s never been more important for retailers to understand shoppers’ needs when purchasing gifts,” said Sean Spector, CEO of Dropoff. “Consumers plan to do more last minute shopping than ever and have high expectations for quick delivery options to accommodate. Retailers can build brand loyalty beyond the holiday season and drive future purchases in the increasingly competitive landscape by working with a reliable same-day delivery partner.”
Omnichannel investments by retailers will remain essential, since the majority of U.S. consumers prefer to shop for gifts online (54%) compared to in-store (6%) or a mix of both (40%). Online shoppers are 38% more likely to purchase from a retailer again after experiencing same-day delivery compared to those who prefer in-store shopping.
Cart abandonment is also on the rise, making an effective supply chain strategy crucial for brands. 67% of consumers have abandoned a gift purchase due to slow delivery times, a 16% increase from 2017. And last minute shoppers are 39% more likely than those not planning any last minute shopping to abandon a purchase for this reason. All in all, 90% of shoppers are likely to recommend a retailer to others after purchasing a gift that arrives on-time or early, proving the need for a successful supply chain network.
The survey also discovered that:
Millennials are 118% more likely to have paid extra for same-day delivery on a gift and 48% more likely to purchase gifts from a retailer that offers same-day delivery during the holidays compared to non-Millennials.
Luxury shoppers* are 105% more likely to have purchased gifts in the last year that were delivered same-day, and are 23% more likely to purchase gifts from retailers that offer same-day delivery during the holidays compared to non-luxury shoppers.
