Council of Superior Court Clerks of Georgia Chooses GreenCourt Legal Technologies to Enable Statewide eFiling
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 05, 2014 -- The Council of Superior Court Clerks of Georgia has reached an agreement with Georgia-based GreenCourt Legal Technologies, LLC to develop a statewide electronic filing system that will improve filing efficiency, reduce court costs and increase information access in the courts in the state’s 159 counties.
In 2011, the State Bar of Georgia’s Board of Governors adopted a resolution on electronic filing that encouraged all stakeholders – filers, clerks and judges – to work together to develop a unified, statewide eFiling system. In 2012, Georgia’s Superior Court Clerks led an effort to define requirements for such an eFiling system. The clerks established a steering committee comprised of representatives from the Judiciary, State Bar, Legislature and Courts to shape the future of eFiling in Georgia.
This collaboration produced a working document that identified issues, defined processes and set expectations for a truly comprehensive eFiling system that would allow attorneys and litigants to file civil case documents directly with the Superior Court in any county in the state. Each filing must be governed by court standards and adhere to the highest levels of security and privacy measures.
“The council is pleased to partner with GreenCourt, a Georgia-based company, to develop and implement the statewide eFiling system according to the exact requirements defined by the steering committee,” Council of Superior Court Clerks President Bart Jackson said. “Georgia’s Superior Court Clerks will work with our judges and the State Bar to develop uniform rules for electronic access to the courts. The first phase of the system will focus on delivering case documents to the respective court clerk. In the near future, the system will offer additional features such as records retrieval and electronic court notifications.”
“We are delighted to partner with Georgia’s Superior Court Clerks to build PeachFile, the statewide eFiling system,” said Bill Esslinger, president and chief executive officer of GreenCourt. “Our team has a track record of success with delivering complex systems in highly regulated environments. Our mission with PeachFile is to craft a perfect fit for the unique challenges of electronic filing in our state. We are excited to bring our experience to bear for the benefit of Georgia’s justice system.”
According to Jackson, a significant number of Georgia counties across the state – including Cobb, Fayette, Forsyth and Gwinnett – are prepared to implement PeachFile on its July 1 starting date, with other counties to follow in the months ahead.
Funding for the project will come from a per-transaction fee, a substantial portion of which will be reinvested in the courts. Over time, the system will result in significant savings of state and local government resources.
