Professor Has Harsh Words For Predatory Financial Practices In His New ‘Senior’s Guide To Wealthy Living’ Aimed At Protecting Consumers
Branson, MO (PRWEB) November 18, 2015 -- Prof. Rodney Ballance, Jr., is part grizzly, part small-town sheriff and part financial ninja. He’s passionate that people should be protected from predatory practices as well as being educated about finances so they can control their own money. That’s why Ballance is offering his brand new “Senior’s Guide to Wealthy Living” at http://www.icontrolmymoney.org.
The complimentary booklet (available by filling out a simple form at the website or by calling 1-888-779-8972) is timely given the recent report from the Associated Press that there will be no cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in Social Security benefits next year.
AP notes that the lack of COLA will affect more than 70 million people, about one-fifth of the nation's population: “Almost 60 million retirees, disabled workers, spouses and children get Social Security benefits,” AP said.
Ballance compares the no COLA decision to the Grinch who stole Christmas, explaining that the financial uncertainty stirred by the action will create an environment ripe for “scams, schemes and scoundrels.”
A nationally known personal finance expert with decades of experience, Ballance is the author of "The 7 Indisputable Laws of Financial Leadership" and "The Love of Money." His third book, “I Control my Money,” is due out next year.
“I gave up a high six-figure income to become an advocate,” Ballance says of his mission, which ultimately led him to launch the International Financial Leadership Association (IFLA), a non-profit organization is dedicated to financial education.
“IFLA is the only Consumer Advocacy organization that focuses 100 percent on financial issues and products,” he explains. “Our specialty is helping victims of unscrupulous sales people recover money from mutual funds, variable annuities and variable life insurance products.”
Ballance is well known for saying, “People who have access to and control over their money will always prevail during challenging economic times.” To him it’s not a mere motto. It’s a fundamental principle, like gravity.
Why such a stark stance? The answer is simple: “Greed.”
In the 1987 film “Wall Street,” actor Michael Douglas portrayed Gordon Gekko, who infamously said, “The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed—for lack of a better word—is good. Greed is right. Greed works.”
Gekko’s iconic comment, shortened to “Greed is good,” became a mantra—and a dangerous one—for a generation of hucksters. That greed creed ignited Ballance’s inner fire, prompting him to indict the financial industry as a whole as “one of the most vile disgusting and perverted industries in the world today.”
Tough language—but appropriate, Ballance firmly believes.
With his next book, “I Control my Money,” Ballance hopes to help a wide range of consumers: young people just out school, newly marrieds, middle age with children and those thinking about retirement. His current guide, a prelude to that book, was written to combat lies and myths that cloud the minds of consumers, leading them to make bad decisions and lose control over their money.
“When you give access to and control over your money to anyone else, you are forever giving away the complete benefit of ever putting that money to work for you,” Ballance said, emphatically.
Ballance said his “Senior’s Guide to Wealthy Living” is a simple, straight-forward booklet that consumers can use to protect themselves from being sold something that’s not right for them—even if it sounds good.
