eMindful Now Offering Complementary and Alternative Medicine Classes Earning CME Credits Via Live, Online Classes

eMindful.com's complementary and alternative medicine classes earning CME credits include mindful eating, mindfulness for children and mindfulness-based stress reduction.

Vero Beach, Florida (PRWEB) July 10, 2007 -- At the forefront of offering Internet-based complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) using virtual classroom technology, eMindful.com is the first in the nation to offer complementary and alternative medicine courses earning CMEs via live, online classes. eMindful.com recently added five CAM classes sponsored for accreditation by the University of Arizona College of Medicine at the Arizona Health Sciences Center for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits ranging from 6 to 34 CMEs.

eMindful.com is an Internet-based educational company offering CMEs for physicians and other medical personnel, as well as Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for nurses, dietitians, and nutritionists. Complementary and alternative medicine class topics include mindful eating, mindfulness for children, and the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course and are taught by live teachers using streaming video and real-time audio on people's home and office computers. Students see and interact with their teacher as well as other course participants.

The University of Arizona College of Medicine (UACOM) at the Arizona Health Sciences Center was an early adopter of sponsoring CME credits for stress reduction classes and has offered 34 CMEs for the local MBSR course conducted in Scottsdale since 1996. In May of 2007 the UACOM expanded their sponsorship to the live, online Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and other mindfulness-based, classes.

Stress has become an integral part of the American lifestyle and health care professionals are particularly susceptible to stress-related illnesses given the demands of their day-to-day functions. Not only are health care professionals working at the very front lines of human suffering, they are also having to cope with health care systems that are overtaxed and overextended," stated Kelley McCabe, eMindful.com Founder.

The basis of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program, and the four other UACOM CME accredited courses, is mindfulness. A mindful practitioner uses reflection and self-awareness, listens more attentively, uses better judgment, better understands their patient, and increases practitioners ability to offer compassionate patient care. It has been well documented that classes in mindfulness can improve the health and well-being of course participants, increase their stress hardiness and resilience, and improve the quality of their therapeutic relationship with patients. These factors should also have a positive impact on employee morale and retention -- an important priority for medical facilities and hospitals.

"The ability for educators offering complementary and alternative medicine to speak live, and 'in-person with participants, as well as the ability for participants to engage in real-time verbal discussion with their teachers, colleagues and peers, are the fundamental elements of quality learning experiences," notes McCabe.

"The eMindful.com courses offer information and techniques, proven through numerous research studies, which can help both the practitioner and their patients to reduce stress, and improve emotional, physical and mental health. We believe offering CMEs for CAM to the medical community, in the comfort of their offices or homes, encourages doctors, psychiatrists, and nurse practitioners to learn and practice stress reduction techniques providing significant benefits beyond continuing education. We also think offering these classes via the Internet gives participants an opportunity to interact and network with other health care practitioners in all parts of the country, and even the world, providing an opportunity to integrate knowledge from diverse geographical regions," McCabe concluded.

eMindful provides more than a dozen virtual classroom courses offering complementary and alternative medicine and personal growth. The online company is privately held and headquartered in Vero Beach, Florida.
