Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) November 07, 2013 -- Barns and storage sheds have been a part of the Sheds Unlimited Stoltzfus family for a few decades now. But the addition of more products combined with an in-house marketing strategy have combined to make this family owned storage shed and garage business a growing and profitable enterprise.
It all began on the home family farm in Lancaster County, PA. The family of five sons and two daughters needed a way to occupy the growing Amish Mennonite boys. While the farm provided a place for the boys to run around and engage with work with the animals, dairy farming in those days was a tough occupation. Tight budgets and low milk prices forced the Stoltzfus family to look beyond their walls for new ideas for maintaining the family economy.
That was in the late 1980s and there was an opportunity in the Lancaster County barns and storage sheds industry caught the attention of Steve and his sons. They began by working for a local sheds and barns company owned by members of their local Amish Mennonite Church. Within a few years they began small scale manufacturing of backyard sheds and barns on the fourth generation family farm. The family cow barn became their first manufacturing facility. In those days it was a task of juggling farm responsibilities and the construction of barns and storage sheds for delivery in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. It would not have been uncommon to hear the call of a cow between the tapping of hammers and air powered tools. But the call of the cows would fade with time, only to be replaced with the patter patter of nail guns and staplers.
While the barns and storage sheds industry was growing, local town regulations left no room for manufacturing on a family farm. Hence, the small storage shed builder in PA was forced to move 9 miles away to Honey Brook and rent a building on the farm of a relative. For the next years, Sheds Unlimited produced barns and storage sheds as well as prefab car garages for delivery in PA and the surrounding states. But when an opportunity arose to return to the family farm due to changes in local regulations, plans were soon made to build a 5000 square foot shed and garage manufacturing facility on the home farm.
It has been nearly two decades since the move was made back to the family farm. Those years brought about tremendous change to the small storage shed company. New products have led to growth every year during the toughest times of the American economy. Vinyl siding sheds were added before moving the company back to Lancaster, PA. Classic Storage Sheds added a touch of class to their line of barns and storage sheds from the Amish. Then came the more recent Premier Garden Storage Sheds which has contributed greatly to the growth of the the past few years. In addition, their specialty buildings such as the popular Classic Expressions Swimming Poolhouse line which is also complemented with new Pool House Cabana Designs. The Cabana features a large porch for enjoying the hot summer evenings around the swimming pool. Two story barns and storage sheds as well as many options in detached one, two and three car garages have also contributed to a twenty-five percent growth in 2013.
An in-house marketing system has allowed the family owned corporation to continue growing their online presence and increase internet sales every year. The design and marketing manager, one of the five Stoltzfus family brothers says that "staying on top of our online presence has been a major factor of growth in the past ten years." And while the company will not share it marketing strategies, it continues to pour hours of work into designing and maintaining a website like none other.
It has been a very good year, say the managers of the growing company. Three of the five sons work in the two-story office built by their own employees. The Legacy Two Story Office Shed features a fully finished interior and offers great ideas for folks looking to buy a summer cabin or a hunting getaway. The coming year looks exciting as new home office sheds and other finished portable products are in the works.
