ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Design Interactive Inc, providers of augmented and virtual reality-based fleet maintenance training solutions for the transportation industry, today announced that its CEO and Founder, Kay Stanney, is among 86 U.S. and 14 foreign members newly inducted to the 2019 class of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).
The Academy cited Stanney's contributions to "human factors engineering through virtual reality technology and strategic leadership."
After being a Professor and Trustee Chair in the Industrial Engineering & Management Systems Department at the University of Central Florida, during which time she won both the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, Stanney founded Design Interactive, a 60+, woman-owned engineering firm. Over the past two decades, Stanney and her team have pioneered award-winning training inventions involving research, development and commercialization of novel technologies to make our nation safer and our corporations more efficient and effective. Additionally, she has led the development of industry best practices to support the proliferation of virtual and augmented reality technologies. Stanney also helped found the AutoNation Cure Bowl, which has raised over $5M for breast cancer research.
Stanney received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a Masters and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, with a focus on Human Factors Engineering, from Purdue University.
Elected by their peers in recognition of contributions to engineering and sustained excellence in the field, NAE members have distinguished themselves in business and academic management, in technical positions, as university faculty, and as leaders in government and private engineering organizations. NAE has a total worldwide membership of just over 2,659. Less than nine percent are female.
