Fort Lauderdale Drug Rehab Center Launches Monthly Alumni Meeting
Fort Lauderdale, Florida (PRWEB) July 08, 2014 -- Cornerstone Recovery Center in Ft. Lauderdale is proud to announce a new monthly event for alumni of the drug rehab center’s addiction recovery programs. The Alumni Meeting will be held the second week of each month. The purpose of the meeting is to support alumni in their continuing journey to stay clean and sober and is also a relapse prevention method. Alumni members are able to reconnect, share, and support each other in their ongoing efforts in fighting addiction. Each meeting features an alumni speaker, friends, food, and a prize raffle.
The first Alumni Meeting was held at our drug rehab center in Ft. Lauderdale on June 13, 2014 from 6pm to 9pm. Alumni members reconnected and socialized over dinner. Many attendees were thankful to be able to reconnect with old friends that they shared the beginnings of their recovery process with. After dinner, there was an alumni speaker, which will be the format each month. The meeting is peer-led and all are encouraged to continue in the maintenance process of their recovery. The first Alumni Meeting speaker was an alumnus who graduated from Cornerstone Recovery Center and has been clean and sober for 11 months now. He connected with peers on many different levels with a shared sentiment of experience, strength, and hope. The speaker expressed his gratitude to Cornerstone Recovery Center for helping him beat addiction and for continuing to offer support to maintain sobriety. During the open discussion, group members discussed current events, stories of their own struggles, and empowered each other with solutions, perseverance, and accountability.
Alumni meeting attendees were quoted as saying, “I can’t wait to come back next month”, “I want to volunteer for Alumni to help Cornerstone because they’ve helped me so much,” “This was awesome!” and “Cornerstone helped save my life”. Cornerstone Recovery Center’s staff and Alumni Meeting coordinators are very proud of their efforts to help support their alumni community and stay connected with them in this very rewarding way.
The next Alumni Meeting at Cornerstone Recovery will be on July 11, 2014 from 6pm to 9pm. All Cornerstone graduates are invited to attend. The speaker at each monthly event will choose the speaker for the next month. Speaker requirements are:
• Must be clean and sober.
• Must have a sponsor.
• Must be working the steps.
• Must have at least 30 days sobriety.
• Must be a Cornerstone Alumni, which means you have completed PHP, IOP, or are currently in IOP or Aftercare Programs.
