University of North Texas Wins National Financial Plan Competition
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (PRWEB) March 27, 2019 -- The student finalists presented their plan to a fictional couple and were judged by an audience of experience Financial Consultants. The results:
• First Place: Rebecca Boyle from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX – David Ragan Professor
• Second Place: Nick Urban and Drake Uplinger from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, MI – Mark VanVoorhees Professor
• Third Place: Kylee Nelson and Bailey Misbach from Utah Valley University in Orem, UT – Dr. Luke Dean Professor.
The students worked incredibly hard on this extracurricular activity – taking a case narrative given to them by the IARFC and turning into a viable financial plan. As for the experience itself, when asked what they learned… “Everything,” commented Bailey Misbach from Utah Valley University. “I felt like I understood all the concepts we went over in class, but it was another thing to internalize it well enough to teach it to someone else – it was a good learning experience.”
With professional consultants weighing in as judges, the teams felt the challenge of being critiqued by experienced financial professionals nerve wracking but beneficial. IARFC Board Member Michael Markey, MRFC and his wife Vanessa Markey portrayed the fictional couple who needed the financial plan and pummeled the students with questions. First place winner Rebecca Boyle related about creating a plan for her fictional clients. “I learned the importance of having a process for doing this, about the order of which things need to be done and how things affect each other.”
The competition is possible with the help of this year’s corporate sponsors, Money Concepts International and Money Guide Pro. “I am always impressed at the professionalism of the individuals who compete.” observed Barry Dayley, MRFC – Executive Vice President of Money Concepts. “We need qualified young people to enter the profession. I come away so enthused by this competition and know that the industry as a whole has a bright future.”
“MoneyGuidePro is proud to be part of the competition and support these students by donating the use of the software,” commented Training Specialist Colin Yackel of MoneyGuidePro. “I wish them continued success in a calling where they can truly affect people’s lives.”
The IARFC National Financial Plan Competition is also supported by individual members of the Association. “If you want to help the next generation of consultants, consider donating to the competition,” relates IARFC Chairman and CEO H. Stephen Bailey, MRFC. “Our industry needs events like these to encourage students as they follow a financial services career path.”
