Sparklers, Salmon and Skokomish Tribe Showcase at Alderbrook Resort & Spa
UNION, Washington (PRWEB) July 01, 2013 -- Throughout July, Alderbrook Resort & Spa, celebrating its centennial in 2013, is offering a detailed glimpse into the history of the surrounding area with a showcase of the Native American influence and history of Lower Hood Canal’s Skokomish Tribe, complete with intricate artwork on display and family-oriented events. Situated just steps from the serene Hood Canal and overlooking the beautiful Olympic Mountains, the historic Northwest resort, located just two hours from Seattle and two-and-a-half hours from Portland, is a perfect destination for a relaxing summer vacation. Alderbrook’s month-long celebration of the local Skokomish Tribe includes:
- Native American Displays: Alderbrook invites family and friends to learn about the Skokomish Tribe’s deep cultural influence on the area and view renowned Salish artwork – long revered for its engaging storytelling and geometric complexity – on displays throughout the Resort during July.
- Skokomish Tribal Center: Alderbrook is happy to provide information and free transportation to the Skokomish Tribal Center, where guests can learn more about the Hood Canal’s local tribal community and its history.
In addition to the centennial celebration offerings, Alderbrook is hosting a variety of family-friendly and special activities during July, providing a perfect opportunity for families, couples and individuals to enjoy a vibrant summer getaway. Additional July events include:
- Thunder on the Canal (Wednesday, July 3): Join Alderbrook for the annual fireworks show! All activities will take place on July 3rd on the property’s beautiful, lush waterfront lawn beginning at 12:00 p.m., and include a BBQ & Beer Garden, musical entertainment and annual Oyster Eating Contest, concluding with a fantastic fireworks show at 10:20 p.m. Event is complimentary to overnight guests; for all non-resort guests, admission is $5 and parking is $10.
Lady Alderbrook Cruise for the Hoodsport Fireworks Show (Saturday, July 6): Enjoy the Hoodsport Fireworks Show from aboard the resort’s 54-ft yacht, the Lady Alderbrook. Boarding begins at 8:30 p.m. and the yacht will return to the Alderbrook marina around midnight. Cash bar and appetizers will be available. Tickets are $20 for guests and $25 for non-resort guests. - Kayak Classes (Mondays-Fridays): Want to stay cool during the summer heat? Try joining in on a Kayak class from the Alderbrook staff. Classes leave the dock from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.
- Mondays in July – Alderbrook Art: Bring out your inner artist and enjoy an evening of art and appreciation of the Hood Canal’s natural beauty. Art supplies and instruction from local Art Instructor, Rob Kamin will be provided. Located on the waterfront lawn from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Space fills up quickly, so come early!
- Tuesdays in July – Spa Workshop: Relax and learn the practice of Qi Gong breathing and moving activities as well as massage techniques at the Alderbrook Resort Spa from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Reservations required 24 hours in advance and space is limited. Please call (360) 898-5520 to register.
- Wednesdays in July – Mussels on the BBQ: Enjoy the mouth-watering culinary delights of summer mussels deliciously prepared on the BBQ. Located on the cottage lawn from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. beginning July 10.
- Thursdays in July – Golf with a Pro: Learn how to perfect your swing with local pros on the waterfront or cottage lawn from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
- Fridays in July – Crab Catch: Catch a crab off the Alderbrook dock! Become an expert on identifying whether your catch is a keeper and learn how to properly bait and drop a crab pot. Open from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
- Fridays in July – Root Beer Float Welcome Reception: Start the weekend right with a root beer float welcome reception! Enjoy locally made ice cream from Olympic Mountain Ice Cream in the lobby from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
- Sundays in July - Local Artisan Showcase: Admire the artistic creations of local artisans and take home authentic souvenirs. Located in the restaurant breezeway from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Mondays and Wednesdays in July – Lady Alderbrook Scenic Tours: Though generally reserved for private, special occasion bookings, Lady Alderbrook opens its deck to the public for afternoon summertime cruises. Enjoy the scenic views of the Olympic Mountains and a unique opportunity to learn the history of Hood Canal. This activity is open to both Resort guests and the general public from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Tickets cost $20 for adults, $15 seniors and $10 for children 10 and under.
