Amalendu Chatterjee, Ph.D. paints a picture the 1971 Bangladesh revolution from ground zero in this book
DURHAM, N.C., July 6, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- After years of oppressive rule under the Pakistani military that denied basic human rights including election results, the people of Bangladesh revolted. With the support of India, the revolution was a success. But the cost of revolution was 3 million deaths, 10 million refugees and thousand women and girls raped victims. Unfortunately, the Bangladesh revolution could not reach its full potential because of an untimely assassination of its founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In his book, "Six Months & Six Days: My struggles during the Bangladesh War of Liberation - A Memoir" (published by Archway Publishing), Amalendu Chatterjee, Ph.D. recounts his traumatic personal experience during the nine-month revolution and makes suggestions for a future corrective path to preserve the basic human rights for Bangladesh minorities, contrasting current unfavorable minority treatments by the administration due to internal and external Islamic influence. The author describes life while growing up in a dictatorial country, including his participation and experience for a successful revolution of Bangladesh is articulated. With the history of Bangladesh revolution being mischaracterized by those perpetrators who conspired against Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, this book seeks to correct the historical perspectives for generations to come.
"The book describes the personal experiences of someone who survived a brutal war for independence," Chatterjee states. "My view in the book may resonate with many leaders to think about lessons for humanity and human civilization. Bangladesh has the potential to be a true model democratic country in a Muslim majority nation if it does not follow the play book of a failed nation like Pakistan."
"'Six Months and Six Days: My Struggles During The Bangladesh War Of Liberation' is as much a riveting account of Dr. Amalendu Chatterjee's own eventful life experiences as it is a poignant chronicle of the colossal human tragedy involved with the partition of India in 1947 and the genocide that the Islamists conducted against the ethnic Bengalis of erstwhile East Pakistan, i.e., Bangladesh, in 1971. Dr. Chatterjee has very clearly articulated his own story of survival as well as those of a few others in order to inform the community of civilized nations of the situation. Readers interested in South Asian politics, particularly those who would like to learn about the colossal human tragedy caused by the splitting secular India to create the Islamic state of Pakistan, and the Bangladesh Genocide, will be amply rewarded by reading Dr. Chatterjee's memoir." —Dwijen Bhattacharjya, Ph. D. Lecturer in Bengali, Columbia University, New York
