1 Million for Work Flexibility Marks National Flex Day
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) October 18, 2016 -- As 1 Million for Work Flexibility, the first national initiative advocating for work flexibility, marks Working Mother’s National Flex Day today, it is launching a new showcase of testimonials around the many reasons people need flexibility.
“It’s clear that work flexibility is critical for almost every worker at some point in their careers -- whether they’re a parent or caregiver, a freelancer or military spouse, a worker dealing with a health issue or someone simply looking for more freedom to travel or volunteer more while also paying the bills,” said Emma Plumb, the director of 1 Million for Work Flexibility. “And flexibility doesn’t just help these workers juggle work and life commitments -- it also benefits the bottom line.”
Launched in 2013, the 1 Million for Work Flexibility movement now has more than 100 coalition members including advocacy groups, think tanks, academic institutions, and businesses, as well as thousands of individuals demonstrating the many types of flexible work that are not only leading to happier and healthier workers, but also improving our economy.
They are people like Kristin Thomas, a mother of four and breast cancer survivor who went back to work three years ago after being a stay at home mom to her four young boys.
“Looking back, I thought returning to work after having kids was going to be difficult. Then I thought working while battling breast cancer was going to be difficult. But in many ways, those challenging times weren’t that much crazier than one of my typical Tuesdays in 2016. My need for flexibility remains,” Thomas says.
They are people like Laurie, a retiree who would like to work on her own terms; Cynthia, who would like to continue working as she cares for an aging parent, and “Matthew,” a disabled U.S. Army veteran who is still able to work and contribute to his family if he has access to flexible work. See many more reasons here for why workers need workplace flexibility.
As part of National Flex Day and our third anniversary, we hope you will join the conversation and the 1MFWF movement by signing up here and sharing why you need a flexible workplace.
NOTE TO THE MEDIA: 1 Million for Work Flexibility is available to comment on a variety of work flex issues, including the personal examples described above, how best to request flex schedules from employers, the benefits of work flex to employees and employers, and specific challenges faced by specific groups of employees, such as parents or military families.
