USO and Dance Master Maksim Chmerkovskiy Call on Clubs, Schools and Organizations to Dance in Support of the Troops
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) October 08, 2013 -- The USO (United Service Organizations) announced today a new grassroots fundraising campaign, Dance for the Troops, that provides a localized and easy way for groups and organizations to raise money in support of U.S. troops and their families through dance event fundraisers during fall and winter, including homecoming and winter formal dances at schools and holiday parties at work or with clubs and organizations.
Internationally known dancer and dance instructor Maksim Chmerkovskiy is joining the USO as a national spokesperson for the campaign in order to inspire Americans to dance in support of USO programs that support the troops and their families.
Dance for the Troops is a grassroots fundraising campaign that will encourage communities across the country to gather together and host dance events to raise funds for USO programs and services for deployed troops, wounded, ill, and injured troops and their caregivers, and families of the fallen.
As many groups and organizations celebrate fall and winter festivities with dance events, USP Dance for the Troops offers an easy-to-use platform to make a direct and meaningful impact to those who serve while dancing the night away.
“In my work I find so many organizations that are looking for ways to support the troops and when I learned that the USO wanted to use dance as a fundraising vehicle for making an impact, I immediately wanted to join the effort in getting the word out,” said Maksim Chmerkovskiy. “Dance is an inspiring way to get communities together to make a true difference in the lives of those who sacrifice so much.”
"For years, schools, community organizations and clubs have held dances to celebrate events and occasions," said USO SVP and Chief Development Officer Kelli Seely. “Dance for the Troops allows Americans to turn their preplanned event into one that will help make a difference. Whether you’re hosting a dance, attending one or even inviting friends to a watch party for one of your favorite dance shows, the money you raise will help create some life changing moments for so many troops and military families.”
Dance for the Troops will run until the end of the calendar year on New Year’s Eve 2013. Volunteers hosting a Dance for the Troops event can create a fundraising page for contributions from donors at http://www.USODance.org as well as create an online fundraising page with the help of many step-by-step and easy to use tools and resources to create, promote and deliver a successful dance event.
About Dance for the Troops
