Former French Open Champion Michael Chang Joins Roster of Pros Teaching This Year’s Four Seasons Resort Maui Wailea Fantasy Tennis Camp
Maui, HI (PRWEB) October 14, 2013 -- Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea has announced that Michael Chang, former French Open champion and world #2 ranked singles tennis player, has been added to the roster of five top pros who will be conducting the seventh annual Wailea Fantasy Tennis Camp. Held this year from November 20-24, 2013 at the Wailea Tennis Club and at the resort, the camp is part of Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea's Unforgettable Events program. Reservations are still being accepted for this exceptional tennis camp.
Participants will experience world class instruction, drills, video analysis and match play with Chang, and with former World #6 ranked singles player Jose Higueras. Other professionals on the roster include two-time U.S. Open champion and former #1 player Tracy Austin, former U.S. Davis Cup Captain Tom Gullikson, former top 50 WTA singles player Jamea Jackson, former World #21 ranked singles player Taylor Dent, and USTA National Coach Troy Hahn.
“The Wailea Fantasy Tennis Camp is designed for avid adult tennis players ranging in skill from recreational to tournament level who enjoy unparalleled access and instruction from a stellar group of tennis pros,” says Mark Simon, director of Marketing, Four Seasons Resort Maui. He explains that the camp will include four days of instruction and play, four nights’ accommodations at Four Seasons Resort Maui, the island’s only Forbes Five Star resort, a players' welcome party, an awards luau and ample opportunities to explore all the island and resort have to offer.
Chang became the youngest-ever male player to win a Grand Slam singles title, winning the French Open in 1989 at age 17. Known for his on-court speed and fighting spirit, Chang is considered by many observers to have been one of the best defensive baseliners of all time. He also introduced the jumping two-handed backhand. He remained in the top 10 of the ATP world rankings for several years in the 1990s, peaking at World No. 2 in September 1996. During his career, he won a total of 34 top-level ATP professional singles titles. His final title was won in 2000 in Los Angeles. His career-high singles ranking was World No. 2 in 1996, following his US Open finals performance. Chang retired from the professional tour in 2003 and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2008.
“We are pleased to have Michael Chang and also Jose Higueras complete our strongest field to date,” says Cathy Nicoloff, director of Tennis at Wailea Tennis Club, who adds that, as in past years, adult tennis players from throughout the globe will converge on Wailea for this opportunity to experience an intense four days of instruction and play with some of the sport’s all-time best players.
