Dr. Eric C. Burdge Signs On With DoctorsElite As a New Member
Gulfport, MS (PRWEB) November 22, 2013 -- DoctorsElite has announced the addition of Dr. Eric C. Burdge to the site's ranks of connected doctors. Dr. Burdge brings with him decades of medical experience. His expertise in surgery and service with the Air National Guard make him a valuable addition to the growing network.
Dr. Burdge is a board-certified general surgeon who has completed an Interdisciplinary Surgical Oncology Breast Fellowship at UAMS-Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute under the tutelage of Dr. V. Suzanne Klimberg. He also serves as the Chief of Aerospace Medicine and Senior Flight Surgeon (SGP) for the 189th Combat Airlift Wing-Arkansas Air National Guard.
As a surgeon interested in breast disease, Dr. Burdge is educated in a multimodality fashion, developing knowledge of benign and malignant conditions. He is trained in molecular epidemiology; genetics; screening and detection; breast imaging; benign breast disease/breast pain; behavioral, medical, surgical, pathological and radiation oncology; biostatistics, and clinical trial design and analysis. He also specializes in Laparoscopic Minimally Invasive Surgery and General Surgery. Additionally, he conducts advanced Endoscopic and Colonoscopic procedures. His practice has included pediatric surgical cases (i.e. appendectomies, circumcisions, herniorrhaphies, etc.)
The Chief of Aerospace Medicine (SGP) is key to the integration of a Team Aerospace both within the medical group, and to the entire wing and higher headquarters. As the SGP, Dr. Burdge assures the quality of key elements of the aerospace medicine program, directs their integration for maximum mission accomplishment, and brings particular knowledge of the "human weapon system." He serves as the authority, consultant, and subject matter expert in the medical specialty of aerospace medicine and is a member of the medical treatment facility Executive Committee. This position is held by the most qualified flight surgeon and is an essential element of the command and control to Team Aerospace. Finally, he served for five years as a Clinical Professor for general surgery residents at the Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi, MS, which is the largest surgical residency program in the United States Air Force.
Dr. Burdge has also recently had his work on Nipple Skin-Sparing Mastectomy published in the Annals of Surgical Oncology, a leading medical journal. In the article, the results of his studies suggest that nipple skin-sparing mastectomy, traditionally reserved for low-risk breast cancer patients, is also effective when performed on patients in more advanced stages of the disease.
Dr. Burdge specializes in Breast Surgical Oncology, Breast Diseases, Breast Cancer, General Surgery, and Aerospace Medicine.
