The Hottest Peppers in the Universe Poster Released
Albuquerque, New Mexico (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 -- Foodways Editions, an imprint of Sunbelt Media, announces the release of its new poster, "The Hottest Peppers in the Universe." This colorful poster, measuring 18 by 24 inches, illustrates the famous superhot chile peppers, like "Bhut Jolokia," "Trinidad Scorpion," "Red Barrackapore," and "Fatalii."
Superhot peppers are generally regarded as the varieties that are more than 200,000 Scoville Heat Units, so at the lower end of the scale they include “Habanero,” “Scotch Bonnet,” and “Barbados Bonney Pepper.” At the higher end of the scale, both “Trinidad Scorpion” and “Bhut Jolokia” were measured at more than one million Scoville Heat Units. Compare these ratings to that of the jalapeño, which measures 5,000 SHU or less.
The peppers were grown out by Dave DeWitt and Marlin Bensinger in New Mexico, and photographed by Wes Naman. Lois Manno designed the poster in the theme of the solar system with the “Trinidad Scorpion” representing the sun as the hottest thing in the universe. Included with each pod photographed are the area of origin, plant size, pod size, and pungency as measured by analytical chemist Marlin Bensinger using High Performance Liquid Chromatography. Dave DeWitt, the publisher, aka "The Pope of Peppers," says, "The poster is a colorful addition to anyone's kitchen or family room and is particularly designed for people who think of themselves as 'chileheads.'" The poster retails for $15 postpaid.
Publisher Dave DeWitt is also the author of more than 50 books, mostly on chile peppers and spicy foods, but more recently focusing on food history. His food history titles include Da Vinci's Kitchen, The Founding Foodies, and the forthcoming Precious Cargo: How Foods of the Americas Conquered the World. Dave is president of Sunbelt Shows, Inc., which produces the National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show (in its 26th year) and the Scovie Awards Competition (in its eighteenth year). Sunbelt Shows is the parent company of Sunbelt Media.
