ASCD Publishing Launches New Short-Format Books/E-books Imprint—ASCD Arias
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) July 15, 2013 -- ASCD, the global leader in providing programs, products, and services that empower educators to support the success of each learner, and the publisher of more than 40 education books a year, is launching a short-format imprint with the debut of its first four ASCD Arias™ professional development publications.
Each short-format publication will be 48 pages in length and will answer a crucial and timely “How do I…?” question. ASCD Arias contain original, standalone content that can be read in one sitting and immediately applied to practice. These convenient and succinct publications offer the expertise of education thought leaders, experienced practitioners, and researchers.
The first four publications in the imprint are Fostering Grit by Thomas R. Hoerr; Teaching with Tablets by Nancy Frey, Alex Gonzalez, and Douglas Fisher; Grading and Group Work by Susan M. Brookhart, and The 5-Minute Teacher by Mark Barnes. All are available now for pre-order in print ($12.99) and e-book formats ($6.99) and will be released in August 2013.
Eighteen additional ASCD Arias titles are planned for the 2013–14 school year. Forthcoming publications will address topics of self-regulation and reinventing education, written by researchers Carrie Germeroth and Crystal Day-Hess of McREL and Tony Wagner, bestselling author and first Innovation Education Fellow at the Technology & Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard.
“The way people read is changing, and time management is an ongoing concern for all of us. ASCD Arias was developed with this challenge in mind and offers meaningful and relevant content while leveraging the brevity of short format,” said ASCD publisher Richard Papale, who spearheaded the development of ASCD’s short-format imprint. “The titles offer original content and are not meant to replace longer-format publications. They will further support educators in their important work in schools and classrooms around the globe.”
About the First Four Publications
In Fostering Grit, veteran school leader and popular Educational Leadership columnist Thomas R. Hoerr answers, How do I prepare my students for the real world? He provides a six-step process, a lesson plan, and self-assessments to help students develop the skills they need to persevere in school and in life.
Teaching with Tablets answers the timely question, How do I integrate tablets with effective instruction? It features both instructional strategies and technology tips, based on a gradual release of responsibility model, from teacher leaders Nancy Frey and Douglas Fisher and technology coordinator Alex Gonzalez.
In Grading and Group Work, assessment expert Susan M. Brookhart offers practical advice and examples across grade levels and subject areas to help teachers answer, How do I assess individual learning when students work together?
Mark Barnes’ The 5-Minute Teacher shares anecdotes specifically tailored to the question, How do I maximize time for learning in my classroom? Barnes helps educators deliver quick, though-provoking lessons that transform any classroom into a student-centered learning environment.
ASCD Arias publications can also benefit readers in any field who are interested in understanding the complex needs of today’s students and educators.
