The John Marshall Law School in Chicago A Leader in Online Legal Education
(PRWEB) July 15, 2013 -- As many begin to favor online courses over the physical classroom, The John Marshall Law School in Chicago leads legal education through online degrees, online courses and its first MOOC.
The John Marshall Law School offers online courses and online advanced degrees, making it possible for students to obtain a quality legal education outside the traditional classroom.
John Marshall continues its distance education mission by being the first Illinois law school to offer a MOOC, which will allow users around the globe to access quality education. The MOOC, titled “Serving in the Armed Forces and Civilian Law,” will be available August 2013 to anyone, not just students enrolled at John Marshall.
“Being online and free makes the MOOC a great option for anyone interested in gathering knowledge on a subject or learning a skill in an engaging way,” said Christopher Bevard, head of Educational Technology at John Marshall.
A MOOC is a free online course available to anyone who has Internet access. As one of the newer innovations in online learning, the public has the opportunity to learn specific topics at a college level without enrolling, seeking a degree or paying tuition.
“Our MOOC will provide a valuable service not just to students and academics, but to people who might not otherwise have the opportunity for or access to higher education,” Bevard added.
The MOOC is the latest development in the law school’s commitment to online legal education. John Marshall offers 30 online courses, including classes in JD, MS and LLM curricula—the most of any law school in the country.
“This is about flexibility,” said June Liebert, chief information officer, who has been teaching online and studying distance education for more than a decade. “It’s good for John Marshall to be as flexible as possible for students.”
John Marshall also offers three LLM degrees and two MS degrees that can be completed entirely online, which includes an online Estate Planning LLM—the only degree of its kind, an MS and LLM in Employee Benefits, and an MS and LLM in Intellectual Property Law, a nationally ranked program.
