Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) July 20, 2013 -- idcloak has published another advisory article on adblocking: ‘Adblock Internet Explorer’. This latest is specifically aimed at users of Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE). The article introduces the native settings built into IE which allow users to easily choose which types of adverts they want to see on which sites. Of all major browsers, this feature is only offered natively by IE.
“Not many people know that IE can be configured to block ads, and those that do often have questions about the procedure,” says Robin Welles, author of the article. “This article explains the various configuration options and offers objective guidance to the user. It also relates the privacy and security benefits of ad management.”
For setting up adblock protection, the article details a course of action for each version of Internet Explorer. For IE9 and 10, the user may apply Tracking Protection Lists in their browser, which can be set up manually over time or administered through up-to-date third-party lists (links to recommended lists are given). The article points out that IE8 users can also block ads with the inPrivate filtering function but, due to certain limitations, Welles recommends users instead upgrade to IE9 or use a third party adblocking program such as Ad Block Plus.
When asked about idcloak’s interest in ad blocking, Welles was forthcoming, “Essentially web advertising has been given an inch and taken a mile. Not only have ads become distracting and obtrusive, they are now also widely used to track users’ web activity and build up profiles on our habits, values and interests. None of this occurs with the explicit consent of the user – and advertisers only get away with it because users are ignorant of the extent they are being monitored or of the ways to opt out of tracking. We wanted to help dispel this ignorance – to show the public their privacy is being invaded and recommend tools for protecting themselves. Ultimately, internet users should be allowed to choose what kinds of ads they want to see and control whether they wish to be tracked – all without needing any special knowledge of how to do so.”
For information on adblocking on Chrome, Welles recommends the article, Ad Block Plus & Incognito Mode; and for Firefox, Adblock Plus Firefox Helps Block Internet Tracking and Malware.
