David Lloyd Leisure invests a further £1.35M in DL Kids; New Dublin facility latest project to keep children physically active
(PRWEB UK) 23 July 2013 -- David Lloyd Leisure, Europe’s premier health, sports and leisure group, is spending £1.35m to further roll out its innovative DL Kids concept for families - with a new facility in Dublin the latest major investment project underway.
The £750,000 purpose-built DL Kids facility at David Lloyd Dublin Riverview, Clonskeagh, which will open to members and non-members in September, is part of an expansion of the successful model with an additional £600,000 earmarked for DL Kids upgrade initiatives at UK clubs this year, including Derby, Knowsley, Nottingham and Warrington.
DL Kids Dublin will feature three multi-purpose activity rooms, a sports hall, play frame, soft play zone, outdoor area, DL Kids cafebar and lounge, providing children aged 0-11 years with an extensive range of programmes running throughout the year specifically designed to complement the way they learn in pre-school and school time.
Activities will include arts and crafts, creative play, hundreds of types of games and sports coaching, as well as birthday parties, after-school clubs and DL Kids Holiday Active programmes running during the school holidays.
David Lloyd Leisure’s head of sport, health and fitness for families, Sarah Hobbs, said: “Families are at the heart of what we offer and Dublin demonstrates our continued commitment to investing in providing unrivalled, market-leading and innovative facilities and services for children.
“Encouraging children to get involved in a variety of physical activities from a young age is absolutely vital if they are to develop core skills such as balance, flexibility and hand-eye coordination, and DL Kids provides youngsters with a vast array of ways to get active and creative, focusing on fun, participation, learning and sport in a safe and modern environment.”
The first purpose-built DL Kids facility opened at David Lloyd Raynes Park in 2010, and, following its success, the concept was rolled out to Leeds, Finchley, Hampton, Beckenham and Barcelona – the first outside the UK.
David Lloyd Leisure, which receives approximately 3.5 million child visits annually, has invested more than £8m on DL Kids in the UK and Europe over the last four years.
In addition to DL Kids, David Lloyd Leisure offers children structured sports coaching as part of its All Stars programmes, featuring tennis, swimming and gymnastics.
