If the underpants factor really indicates where the economy is heading, the UK is turning a corner, say men’s underwear experts Deadgoodundies.com
(PRWEB UK) 31 July 2013 -- After two steady quarters, the online specialists dedicated to men’s underwear and swimwear have seen a sudden rise in sales. Deadgoodundies reviewed its performance as July came to a close and partners Jane Garner and Adam Davies are encouraged.
Jane, who has been interviewed in the UK and US about the economic significance of sales of men’s underpants (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20975333), says the increase is significant.
“We keep hearing from various sources that there are hints of recovery, but they tend to be looking at manufacturing output, GDP, unemployment or high street sales,” she explains. “July is our best month since January this year. January is always extra busy because we have the New Year sale, and we have beaten the total for July 2012.
“Deadgoodundies’ monthly sales are dominated by underwear and the upturn has remained steady from day to day, so this isn’t a seasonal blip.”
Deadgoodundies.com is unusual because the website is devoted purely to men’s underwear brands, complemented by capsule collections of swimwear, loungewear, nightwear, t-shirts and tops from best selling ranges. DGU draws stock from around the world and ships to a significant number of countries, though at least half of its sales are to UK customers.
The DGU team is hoping the trend continues, as Jane adds: “Alan Greenspan’s theory was that sales of underpants were an indicator of what was happening in the wider economy. As an economic thermometer our performance is not clouded by sales of other products on the same website, we’re all about pants. So if the pants mercury is rising, we can look forward to a better second half for 2013.”
