Top Doctor Announced Honorary Chair of Hydrocephalus Association Chicago WALK
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) August 06, 2013 -- Dr. Lauren Streicher, Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Feinberg School of Medicine and recurring Chicago television guest, will join forces with the Hydrocephalus Association on Sunday, August 18, as the Honorary Chair of the 9th Annual Chicago Hydrocephalus Association WALK. The WALK will raise funds to support the Hydrocephalus Association’s critical research initiatives and current education and outreach programs.
Considered a thought leader in her field, Dr. Streicher has appeared in numerous national and local media outlets discussing all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She currently is seen regularly on ABC’s, Windy City Live, the number one rated talk show in Chicago and is a recurring guest on The Dr. Oz Show, The Today Show, and Good Morning America-Health. Consistently recognized as an area “Top Doctor” by Chicago Magazine, Streicher is honored to advocate for those affected by hydrocephalus as she has experienced the condition firsthand in her medical practice.
“As an obstetrician, I personally know the impact when a child is born with hydrocephalus. And make no mistake, the impact is not only on the child that has to go through dozens of surgeries and struggle with daily challenges. The impact is equally felt by the family, and the entire community," states Streicher.
She hopes that the WALK will help to raise awareness and stimulate research efforts, especially as the number of Americans affected by this chronic neurological condition continues to grow. “Our service men and women, returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, who have suffered traumatic brain injury, are adding to that number.”
The Hydrocephalus Association’s 9th annual Chicago WALK will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Soldier Field Great Lawn. The event kicks off at 10:00AM where an estimated 500 participants are expected to come together to raise awareness for hydrocephalus. Volunteers are hoping to outraise last year’s fundraising total of $68,000. All Hydrocephalus Association WALKs are coordinated and run solely by volunteers with all of the proceeds used to eliminate the challenges of hydrocephalus by funding critical research and education.
