Largest Bank Robbery in History Subject of New Book
Burbank, CA (PRWEB) February 04, 2014 -- On a sunny September morning in 1930, six men pulled off the largest bank heist in history. Most remarkably, all the money was later returned. Some of the bandits had committed the infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, and their boss, Al Capone, later made them give all the money back. The incredible story is revealed in the new book The Great Heist – The Story of the Biggest Bank Robbery in History.
Also revealed in the book is the hunt for the money by two unlikely partners; one the crooked County Attorney who ran the gambling rackets in southeast Nebraska, the other the straight-laced Assistant US Attorney who even withheld income tax when paying his gardener. Together they would navigate the dangerous streets of gangster-era Chicago and East St. Louis, and would strike a back alley deal with the infamous Chicago Outfit. Ultimately, Nebraska got its money back, and two innocent men went to jail.
Additional characters include the Secret Six, Eliot Ness’s Untouchables, Fred “Killer” Burke, and Al Capone’s long lost brother, (who was a Prohibition officer in Nebraska.) There is also a plethora of colorful personalities, including the father of John F. Kennedy’s lead speech writer, and the brother of William Jennings Bryan.
