The Sponsor for this event, Medora Clai Reading, is a supporter of the Allen West Foundation and she said, “I want to do whatever I can to support the Allen West Foundation, which is Allen West’s legacy and provides support for JROTC programs across the United States. I feel that JROTC programs help provide young men and women with the kind of guidance and conservative leadership skills necessary for the future of America”.
In the tenth grade Allen West joined the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program. Congressman West received his Bachelor's degree while on an ROTC scholarship at the University of Tennessee and later went on to get a Master's degree from Kansas State University, both in political science, and entered the United States Army in 1983 when he graduated from the University of Tennessee. Congressman West was the US Army ROTC Instructor of the Year in 1993 and he accredits the JROTC with forming the basis for his life of service and commitment to the nation. He firmly believes that education is the great equalizer and that with a good education any child in America can live his or her dream. To that end the Allen West Foundation was formed as Congressman West’s legacy; to educate, engage and inspire the next generation of conservative leaders.
About The Allen West Foundation: The Allen West Foundation was established in January, 2013, to educate, engage and inspire the next generation of conservative veteran, minority and female leaders. In addition to directly supporting organizations such as Young Marines, Junior ROTC and Navy Sea Cadets, the Foundation conducts various forums, educational events and leadership training seminars across the country.
