Voxy, Inc. Selected to Present at 2014 East Coast Organization of Language Testers (ECOLT) Conference
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 07, 2014 -- Voxy, the education technology company that pioneered personalized and adaptive English language learning, announced today that it was chosen to present at the 13th annual ECOLT conference that will take place on October 10, 2014 at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York.
The Pedagogy team at Voxy submitted a research paper to ECOLT entitled “Testing an online English course: Lessons learned from an analysis of post-course proficiency change scores.” The paper explores changes to Voxy learners’ proficiency assessment scores after they used Voxy for eight weeks to learn English, and discusses the implications for the design of online language learning activities.
On July 28, 2014 the paper was selected for presentation at the upcoming conference in October. The findings will be co-presented by Voxy’s Chief Education Officer, Katharine B. Nielson, Ph.D and Megan Masters, a researcher at the University of Maryland Center for Advanced Study of Language.
“Voxy is committed to establishing the efficacy of our language courses and to using the results of language assessment to improve learner outcomes as well as future online language learning experiences,” said Dr. Nielson. “Being able to share our empirical findings with the language testing community is an important step for our company, and we are very excited to discuss this paper at ECOLT.”
"We are deeply committed to efficacy and learner outcomes,” said Paul Gollash, Voxy’s Founder and CEO. “This goes beyond our product and service delivery - it also means being a strong advocate within the global education community to put the power back into the hands of learners, who need transparency on efficacy so that they can make better decisions when it comes to education. We look forward to participating at the conference this fall to further this priority."
The East Coast Organization of Languages Testers (ECOLT) represents professionals, scholars, and students who are involved in language testing projects and research. The organization works to support connections between academia, K-12 education, government, and for-profit and not-for-profit testing organizations and has been organizing conferences for professionals in the field for the past 12 years.
