Bode Technology Launches DNA Collection Device
Lorton, VA (PRWEB) September 25, 2014 -- The Bode Technology Group, Inc. (Bode), a leading provider of forensic DNA products and services, announced today the introduction of the next generation of DNA collection products, the Bode Buccal 2™. The new collection device will help revolutionize the collection and processing of high-throughput reference samples in forensic DNA crime laboratories. The collection system is easy-to-use and maximizes the amount of collected DNA available for processing to improve success rates and cost savings for the laboratory.
The Bode Buccal 2 has new features that make the collection device user friendly and requires minimal training to use. The product easily converts to a “card” format that can be loaded directly onto automated punching devices upon receipt in the laboratory. The conversion of the collector to the card also creates a smaller footprint that is compatible with many long-term storage systems used by laboratories.
Like the Bode Buccal DNA Collector™, the new collection device incorporates “direct collection,” a design principle that is the key to higher success rates in laboratory processing. Direct collection allows the sample obtained directly from the subject’s mouth to be processed by the laboratory, eliminating any sample transfer to a secondary device as required by other collection devices. Overall, the elimination of the secondary transfer minimizes costly sample re-processing and re-collections.
“The new DNA collection system has been developed using expertise gained from processing more than 1.5 million samples for DNA databasing programs across the country. The design increases efficiency and saves money in laboratory operations,” said Andrew Singer, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Bode. “When collecting DNA from an offender at a booking station, law enforcement needs a simple fail-proof system, and this is exactly what the Bode Buccal 2 provides.”
The Bode Buccal 2 is the newest addition to a product line that has delivered more than 5 million collection devices worldwide. Buccal DNA collection devices are a key element in DNA databasing programs for the forensic and law enforcement markets. Bode will be launching this at the "Advancements in Collecting and Automating DNA Databasing Samples” workshop at next week’s International Symposium on Human Identification in Phoenix, Arizona.
