Maureen Slocum Named a Folio: 2014 Top Women in Media Award Winner

Folio: selected the award recipients and created the event to recognize women who are driving the agenda for the industry and in their companies – women who are innovating in new ways and guiding their businesses into new markets. Slocum was named a winner in the Entrepreneur category.
As owner of Zoomba Group, Slocum publishes two award-winning B2B magazines, Foodservice Equipment & Supplies (FE&S) and restaurant development + design (rd+d), as well as related websites, apps and e-newsletters. She formed the company in 2009, during the Great Recession, seizing the opportunity to purchase the FE&S title from Reed Business Information (RBI) when it abruptly discontinued its North American B2B publishing division. A former publisher of FE&S at RBI, from 2003 to 2007, Slocum had since moved on to become vice president of media at ZweigWhite (now Zweig Group). Her return to FE&S by acquiring the title and resuscitating the brand is an entrepreneurial success story second to none in the foodservice publishing industry.
Under her direction, Slocum’s team has redefined and strengthened the FE&S brand through a commitment to editorial integrity, original content creation and value-added service. Over the past four years, the magazine has grown to become the leader in the foodservice equipment space in terms of advertising revenues and ranks fifth in the total foodservice media market.
In 2012, Slocum spearheaded Zoomba Group’s 2012 launch of restaurant development + design. Now a bi-monthly publication, rd+d was a Folio award runner-up in 2013 for Best New Magazine in the B2B category and has been well received by readers and advertisers alike, a testament to Slocum’s philosophy that if readers are treated as the primary customer, then advertisers will follow.
