From lions, to camels, to lemurs, Wilson's Wild Animal gives children a one on one with animals. Wrap up your day at Dinosaur Land. Learn about the plant eaters and the carnivores of the past.
Woodstock, Virginia and Shenandoah County 48 Hour Trip
DAY ONE - STATE PARKS, PARADES, and CAVERNS - Shenandoah County has the George Washington State Park. Plan a full half day at Shenandoah Caverns Family of Attractions. Lunch can be had at the 50’s cafe. American Celebration on Parade When the kids walk into American Celebration on Parade is a showcase of parade floats from the Macy’s, Rose, Philadelphia, and Presidential Inaugural parades.
DAY TWO - HISTORY, WAR, LAKES, ZIP-LINES and BIKE PARKS - Take Route 11 and past by one of the few covered bridges left in the United States. If Civil War is of interest, then a visit to the New Market Battlefield Museum. Then it is on to Bryce Resort.
A great place for outdoor adventure, there is zip-lining, summer tubing, and grass skiing. Looking for a way to cool off, visit Bryce’s Lake Laura. For a small fee, one can spend the entire summer day lounging on the grassy beach while the kids swim and play on tranquil Lake Laura. If in the mood for a hike, enjoy the three mile nature/hiking trail with scenic views around Lake Laura. It will be hard to leave this resort.
Harrisonburg, Virginia 48 Hour Trip
DAY ONE - FARMS, DAIRIES, QUILTS, and HISTORY - Harrisonburg is a town living and breathing ‘green’. The first stop is Back Home on the Farm on Route 42 just northwest of Harrisonburg. Experience the sound garden to pig races to a cow train, petting the animals and riding on the 30 Horse Carousel.
Head downtown to the Explore More Discovery Museum. Children can be in a medical emergency environment, a scientist in a lab, or putting on a costume and being on a stage. The museum is full of mini environments of experiences. Just up the street is the Valley Turnpike Museum where children can relive the history of settlement in the Shenandoah Valley. Offering a detective game, this is a great educational experience for both the adults and kids.
The Virginia Quilt Museum showcasing the wonderful world of quilting. Like all old houses, there are ghosts so keep the children close. Harrisonburg also boasts the only fire department museum. If visiting on Saturday, Art in the Park is a must at the Farmers Market. Finally each day around 4 pm, head out to Mt Crawford Creamery to experience a real dairy barn with cow milking.
Wrapping up the day, one can spend the night on the mountains at Massanutten Resort and prepare for fun in the mountains.
DAY TWO - WATERPARKS, KIDS ZIP-LINES, AND RIVER ADVENTURE - Massanutten Resort’s Waterpark is a full day of fun offering indoor and outdoor water adventure. There is also a kid friendly zip-line adventure park for KIDS ONLY.
