Girl Scouts of Central Texas Honors Distinguished Women of Austin
Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 18, 2014 -- Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX) honored Tricia Berry, Tricia Graham, Carla McDonald, Heather McKissick, and Dr. Beth Nauert as 2014 Girl Scouts Women of Distinction. These women are outstanding members of our community through individual excellence and high levels of achievement. They are successful in business, education, government, volunteerism, health care, multicultural activities, and of course, Girl Scouting. The honorees are women who have become role models for GSCTX’s membership, girls and adults alike. They are living examples that hard work and perseverance can lead to great achievements. They raised families, nurtured full-time careers in various fields, and still managed to dedicate hours upon hours of volunteering to various organizations that resonated with their values and bettered the quality of life of those around them.
T3, founded by Gay Gaddis, was honored as Distinguished Workplace for Women for its continuous support and encouragement of women’s leadership and professional development and success. A significant (and unique) part of T3’s corporate culture is the T3 and Under program which allows mothers and fathers to bring babies to work for the first nine months to help ease the transition into day care. Nearly 70 babies have participated to date!
It’s very much worth noting that lifelong Girl Scout, captain of the Lady Cans robotics team, and future student at the UT Cockrell School of Engineering, Amy Quartaro, brought down the house with her speech about the importance Girl Scouts of Central Texas has had in her life. There was not a dry eye in the room after she described how her growth as a young woman and her aspirations for a career in aerospace engineering were directly related to her participation in the Girl Scout leadership experience.
Girl Scouts of Central Texas has long been known for its quality programs aimed at helping girls develop leadership skills. The women honored at yesterday’s luncheon have generously given many of their volunteering hours to GSCTX, working closely with our girls and inspiring them to dream bigger. Events like Women of Distinction allow women to be recognized for their accomplishments in many different areas, providing figures to look up to for young Girl Scouts on the path to greatness.
“I want to congratulate all of our Women of Distinction! They are a wonderful inspiration for our 20,000 Girl Scouts across central Texas,” says Lynelle McKay, CEO of GSCTX. “Girl Scouts empowers girls to find their inner confidence, seek out their dreams, and become our next generation of Women of Distinction! The community of supporters who came together for our luncheon have given us the power to better serve our girls and we are profoundly grateful.”
Girl Scouts of Central Texas is proud to include these women and workplace in the ranks of distinguished individuals and businesses that put forth all their effort to make the world a better place.
