Fine Modern paintings and Important Russian Artists to Feature At Kaminski's July 26th Estate Auction
Beverly, Massachusetts (PRWEB) July 13, 2015 -- Kaminski Auctions is pleased to present a selection of fine Modern paintings from a San Diego estate including important works by artists such as George Leslie Hunter, and Filippo de Pisis as well as several Russian artists including Ilys Mashkov, Andre Lanskoy and Nicolas Tarkhoff. The sale also includes items from the estate of Ms. Clara Netz of La Jolla, California. Her collection includes a group of Asian watercolors painted and signed by Ms. Netz, an artist herself, as well as many fine decorative items ranging from bronzes and Persian carpets to chandeliers and Japanese porcelain.
The selection of fine art offerings in the auction is expansive with great variety. Top lot of the sale is an important still life of a bouquet of flowers and fruit by George Leslie Hunter valued at $20,000 to $30,000.
Hunter was born in England in 1877, emigrated to the United States at age 15 with his family and settled outside of Los Angeles, California. A successful graphic artist and illustrator, Hunter worked for the Overland Monthly and with a group of artists including Maynard Dixon and Arthur Putnam formed the California Arts Society.
Using his earnings as an illustrator, he traveled to Europe for inspiration and began painting, mostly still life’s. He returned to live in Scotland, settled in Glasgow and had his first exhibition in 1915. Inspired by artists such as Manet, Kalf and Chardin he was associated with three other artists that became known as the Scottish Colorists.
Popular through out his career with critics, Hunter had successful exhibitions in Glasgow, London and New York, and as recently as June 2015, his Still Life with Roses and Fruit sold at Christie’s, London, for over $200,000. His career was short lived as Hunter died at the age of 54 in 1931 from cardiac failure.
A selection of Russian paintings by noted artists includes works by Andre Lanskoy, Nicolas Tarkhoff, and Ilya Mashkov. European artists include Italian artist Filippo de Isis, French pointillist Albert Dubois-Pillet and a work by Austrian artist Gustav Holweg-Glantschnigg titled “Modest Glance," from a Massachusetts estate as well as two Brian Coole paintings.
Silver in the sale showcases a large Russian silver samovar standing 18 1/2 inches overall marked in Cyrillic 84 and with marker's mark, of a double headed eagle, weighing approximately 158 troy ounces from a NY estate. The samovar is estimated at $13,000-$16,000.
The jewelry highlights include an eighteen carat white gold and diamond bracelet, from a NY estate with approximately 2.0 cwt. of diamonds, estimated at $6,000-$8,000. Other jewelry in the sale includes Seaman Schepps earring, south sea pearls and vintage jade jewelry.
Bohemian glass decanters, a Persian mahal carpet, several important bronzes, neoclassical chandeliers, Chinese porcelain and Asian jade round out the offerings in this his exciting sale of over 450 fresh to the market lots.
