UMH Properties To Host Former Mets and Yankees Pitcher Dwight “Doc” Gooden Autograph Signing in Monticello, NY
Monticello, New York (PRWEB) June 02, 2016 -- UMH Properties, Inc. announces that Dwight “Doc” Gooden, the three-time World Series champion pitcher, will make an appearance June 18th from 12 - 2pm at the UMH community, Kinnebrook Estates, 351 State Route 17B, Monticello, New York. Gooden will sign fans’ own sports memorabilia or free photos of the four-time Major League all-star that visitors will receive after touring a UMH model home.
“We can’t wait for our residents and neighbors to meet Doc,” says Marty Mancini, New York Regional Manager of UMH Properties, Inc. “He was popular with both Mets’ and Yankees’ fan bases. There aren’t many players who can say that.”
During a storied career, Gooden pitched for the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Houston Astros between 1984 and 2000. But he is most fondly remembered for the time spent as a member of the Mets and Yankees, where he had the greatest impact.
When Gooden played for the Mets during the team’s World Series win in 1986, it was only the team’s second championship and the first in 17 years. While most of Gooden’s record-setting performances occurred during his stint with the Mets, he pitched the first no-hitter of his career with the Mets’ crosstown rival, Yankees, in 1996.
The 6’ 2” right-hander was drafted by the Mets in the 1st round of the 1982 amateur draft and signed in June of that year at the age of 19. Just four seasons later, he won the prestigious Cy Young Award, as voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America. He maintained an impressive .318 lifetime batting average and was the youngest player ever to appear in an All-Star game.
During the Gooden signing, UMH will also provide free snacks, raffle prizes and giveaways on a first-come, first-served basis.
