Smart Clinic Presents Patient Engagement Solution at "Launch Pad" Event Hosted By the Dept. of Veterans Affairs in Support of the White House Cancer Moonshot Initiative
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) December 13, 2016 -- Smart Clinic presented their new education-driven patient engagement application at the US Dept. of Veterans Affairs’ “Launch Pad: Pathways to Cancer InnoVAtion” event, highlighting its ability to educate patients about their condition and provide ongoing support, while walking them through treatment, resulting in better outcomes. The “Launch Pad” event, in support of the White House Cancer Moonshot Initiative, brought together the top minds in the healthcare and medical research community with the goal of eradicating cancer, improving discovery and treatment technologies, and advancing the lives of those suffering from the disease.
“It’s great to see the changes happening at the VA including their renewed focus on patients as individuals, not just part of a group,” stated Robert Backie, CEO of Smart Clinic. “Cancer among our vets is a huge problem. Many of them have fought military battles and now must fight a personal one. The opportunity for us to be part of the engagement solution is one of the most important things we can do.”
Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Robert McDonald discussed the VA initiative to focus on prevention and effective treatment of several cancers affecting veterans, including colon and prostate cancer. Michael Milken, founder and chairman of the Prostate Cancer Foundation, spoke on the importance of rethinking our approach to research into and management of prostate cancer.
“Mike Milken has begun the process of disrupting the way we do prostate cancer research,” says Paul Berggreen, Founder of Smart Clinic. "We're doing the same thing with doctor patient-communication. Smart Clinic was designed to enhance the patient engagement and education level while fitting seamlessly into office workflow. That’s the type of non-intrusive change that doctors can embrace.”
