Patient Advocacy Community of The Beryl Institute Honors Eve DeVaro as 2017 Ruth Ravich Patient Advocacy Award Recipient
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) April 21, 2017 -- The Patient Advocacy Community of The Beryl Institute presented Eve DeVaro, Director, Patient Advocacy, Bon Secours Baltimore Health System, with the 2017 Ruth Ravich Patient Advocacy Award in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the field of patient advocacy and to fellow patient advocates. DeVaro was honored with the award at The Beryl Institute’s annual Patient Experience Conference on March 20 in Denver, Colorado.
With a background of over twenty years in healthcare ethics and six years in patient advocacy, DeVaro oversees patient advocacy initiatives for an urban health system and is responsible for promoting and protecting patient rights in all service settings, including responding to quality of care complaints and grievances; facilitating ethics consultations; staff education on industry best practices in the areas of patient experience, patient satisfaction and trauma-informed care; and strategic alignment of advocacy programs across the health system. She has a passion and commitment to the local community receiving mental health services and continues to educate caregivers and staff about honoring the rights of persons receiving services.
“Eve promotes the Ruth Ravich spirit of Patient Advocacy through actions both at her facility as well as outside her work environment. As a department of one, Eve knows first-hand the hurdles to balance advocating for patients while growing and ensuring the best practice in patient advocacy within her department,” said Kate Clarke, Manager, Patient Relations/Interpreter Services at Northwestern Medicine’s Central DuPage and Delnor Hospitals and Patient Advocacy Community Executive Team Member. “Beyond her local community, Eve touches the professionals of the Patient Advocacy Community by working to collaborate and create networking support for other patient advocates who are also a department of one.”
Awarded annually since 1991, the Ruth Ravich Patient Advocacy Award recognizes individuals whose work supports the vision of bringing the patients’ needs to the center of healthcare. Ruth Ravich was the founder and first president of the Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy, now the Patient Advocacy Community of The Beryl Institute. As the profession of Patient Advocacy and patient centered care has evolved, the award has come to also recognize individuals within the Patient Advocacy Community who engage in focused efforts to be of support to fellow Advocates in promoting patient rights and patient centered care.
