Magee Rehabilitation Creates Accessible Travel Video for People with Disabilities
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) October 04, 2017 -- Magee Rehabilitation Hospital has partnered with Southwest Airlines, the Transportation Security Administration, and Philadelphia International Airport to create a video of helpful tips for people with disabilities who wish to travel by plane while using a wheelchair. The video is available on the Magee Rehabilitation YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/rjkb7VabsJ0 ;
“After a life-changing illness or injury, there can be feelings of fear or hesitation around the activities we once enjoyed,” Dr. Jack Carroll, President and CEO of Magee Rehabilitation says. “We created this video to ease some of those worries for people with disabilities and show how travel with a wheelchair is very possible.”
Three years ago, Magee Rehabilitation’s Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Department first had the idea to develop a travel video for people with disabilities, to demonstrate the process of travelling by plane while using a wheelchair. A team of Magee clinicians worked with Flat World Media Productions and representatives from Southwest Airlines, the Transportation Security Administration, and Philadelphia International Airport to discuss how to capture an authentic “day in the life” as a traveler with a disability.
Included in this video are instructions on how to navigate security, access your seat, instruct staff to assist with your needs, and much more. Former Magee patient Josh Jones, who sustained a spinal cord injury in 2015, agreed to be featured in this video to show others that their possibilities are endless after sustaining a physical injury.
The travel video was designed an educational tool for Magee’s inpatient and outpatient facilities, giving patients and their loved ones an understanding of their potential for travel and to demonstrate that there is life after injury. Share this video to encourage others to explore the world.
