Commsignia announces that its new V2X Connectivity and Edge Computing Platform is supporting key Live Autonomous Vehicle and Road Safety deployments at CES 2018
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (PRWEB) January 05, 2018 -- Commsignia announces it next generation ITS-RS4 Smart City distributed intelligence roadside unit and its onboard vehicle counterpart, the ITS-OB4 DSRC/Cellular V2X connectivity platform to enable sensor data sharing among autonomous vehicles and smart city infrastructure with first deployments for CES Las Vegas 2018.
Commsignia’s ITS-RS4 has been installed along the Las Vegas Strip and other critical infrastructure points in the Las Vegas Innovation District such as traffic intersections, roundabouts and busy roads. The ITS-RS4 acts as a local hub for sensor data exchange as well as a service/application platform that can be used to enhance the safety of all road users and help optimize traffic management. The ITS-RS4 gathers information from the surrounding environment such as traffic cameras, traffic light controllers, sensors and V2X connected vehicles – cars, motor-cycles and even bicycles. A powerful Deep Neural Network / GPU accelerated Artificial Intelligence processor creates a real-time representation of the information to create a dynamic model of the environment.
Applications and services in the ITS-RS4 utilize the dynamic model to enhance road-safety generating real-time alerts to drivers, connected autonomous vehicles and pedestrians, whilst escalating events and aggregated data for analytics to Traffic Management Centers. Commsignia ITS RS4 is already being used in several V2X based road safety pilot projects in the Innovation District of Las Vegas. At CES 2018, Commsignia will also showcase a Pedestrian Safety Demo with the City of Las Vegas, showing how intersections can be made safer. This demo will feature a camera detecting a pedestrian on the crosswalk and using the intelligence of the ITS-RS4 to relay information to the traffic light controller, other road users, connected cars and the Traffic Management Center.
Jozsef Kovacs, Commsignia CEO, commented, “Commsignia is at the heart of the evolving connected V2X market and we are proud that our products are supporting road safety projects in the heart of Las Vegas Innovation District. Our next generation DSRC/Cellular V2X Connectivity ITS-RS4 is our latest market leading innovation connecting vehicles, infrastructure and pedestrians to make roads safer and more efficient.”
ITS-RS4 highlights
● The ITS-RS4 platform can utilize all next generation DSRC and Cellular-V2X connectivity modes for real-time sensor data sharing as well as legacy backbone connectivity modes to the cloud.
● The ITS-RS4 features the latest Cyber Security measures including Hardware Security Modules (HSM) and V2X Software Stack to make sure that the system adheres and exceeds latest security standards
● The ITS-RS4 platform builds on the market leading and proven V2X Software stack supporting applications including V2V for vehicle collision avoidance and safety systems; V2I for enhanced traffic signal timing and priority; V2N for real-time traffic routing and cloud services; V2P for safety alerts to pedestrians, cyclists and motor bikes.
● The ITS-RS4 features a Deep Neural Network /GPU accelerated AI edge-computing processing core to ensure support for advanced sensors and real-time detection.
COMMSIGNIA ITS SOLUTIONS IN THE HEART OF THE LAS VEGAS INNOVATION DISTRICT
In late 2017, Las Vegas launched the very first autonomous bus on a public street in America. Members of the public can take free rides on a 12-seater Navya self-driving shuttle along a 0.6 mile loop that includes the city's iconic Fremont Street. Working with its local partner, Southwest Traffic Systems, Commsignia supplied its next generation Smart City ITS-RS4 Roadside Units as part of the infrastructure to support the autonomous vehicle at junctions and other critical points along the route. As a gesture to recent tragic events, AAA will contribute $1 for each of the first 250000 passengers that ride the shuttle to the victims of the Las Vegas shootings. Supporting the deployment, Commsignia ITS-RS4s are installed at several intersections interfacing with Trafficware traffic lights to manage V2I scenarios such as lane priority, wrong way alerts as well as notify drivers when a pedestrian is within a crosswalk.
Las Vegas is also running a pilot project to improve pedestrian, motorcycle and bicycle safety in the Innovation District. Commsignia is supplying its ITS-OB4 (V2X Onboard Unit), that will be installed in vehicles, buses, motorcycles and bicycles to help notify drivers of the presence of motorcyclists and cyclists in different V2V scenarios including blind spot detection and collision avoidance, a proven solution that was deployed in 2017 for the US DOT Connected Vehicle Pilot program in Tampa, FL.
From January 4th, Commsignia RSU’s will feature in the Innovation Room and Informational Kiosks being unveiled by the City of Las Vegas at the City Hall, 495 S Main St, Las Vegas. During the CES, Commsignia products will be at the core of the Pedestrian Safety Demo with the City of Las Vegas, Smart City Expo Hall, Westgate 1913.
