Virginia-based non-profit Pivotal Moments, Inc. Announces Launch with Support from Business Leaders
MCLEAN, Va. (PRWEB) March 26, 2018 -- Pivotal Moments, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to educate, support and inspire young people to help reduce the stigma of mental illness and to stand up for mental wellness in America, announced its official launch.
Robert Morgan, co-founder and former CEO of MorganFranklin Consulting, started the non-profit in response to mounting research and national events that point to the need for more focus on mental health – in schools, communities and the workplace. Morgan serves as the organization’s President and co-founder. Jeana Foster, a fundraising leader, and the 2013 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society National Capital Region ‘Woman of the Year,’ serves as Executive Director.
Fifty-percent of lifetime cases of mental illness start by the age of fourteen, according to National Alliance on Mental Illness. And in 2014 a California Well-Being Survey from the California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA) found that nine out of ten people with mental health problems experience stigma and discrimination. “This is a big issue for children and young adults, and it starts at an earlier age than most people realize,” said Morgan. “More can be done to educate and inspire young people to be champions for mental health and well-being."
Pivotal Moments raises money to develop online learning tools for schools, create up-stander citizen leadership programs, and to provide financial support to organizations who offer mental health and wellness treatments to those who cannot afford them. The organization has an impressive advisory board of business and community leaders.
“Resources that help parents and their children tackle mental health are needed for communities to thrive. An organization like Pivotal Moments is good for the well-being of our business community. That’s why I am involved,” said advisory board member, Mary-Claire Burick, Rosslyn Business Improvement District President.
The organization’s next fundraising event is the Inaugural Gridiron Rivalry Classic on April 16th at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Montgomery County Maryland. The event revisits one of the greatest rivalries in NFL history. The tournament consists of 18 foursomes each including a former professional football player from Washington or Dallas. Co-chairmen for the event are former Washington Redskin linebacker, Ken Harvey, and former safety, Bill Bates.
