ACCSC Accreditation Announcement
(PRWEB) April 17, 2018 -- In 2017, Unitek College added a seventh campus with the acquisition of Southern California Medical College in Bakersfield, California. The campus recently received accreditation from ACCSC as a branch of Unitek College’s Fremont campus.
“We are thrilled that our Bakersfield campus has received ACCSC accreditation,” said Janis Paulson, Chief Executive Officer at Unitek College. “This is a big step forward for Unitek as we continue to educate the healthcare and IT professionals of tomorrow. In extending our reach, we hope to better the communities around us through the advancement of education and healthcare.”
As of March 2018, the Bakersfield campus received accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). In 1967, ACCSC was recognized as a nonprofit, independent accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education. This federal recognition confirmed the Commission's status as a dependable authority for the establishment of educational standards. Additionally, ACCSC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the institutional accrediting body for more than 650 post-secondary, trade, and technical schools.
With this accreditation, several avenues have been opened for the Bakersfield campus. Formal recognition from ACCSC helps ensure consistency in institutional operations and strengthens the credibility of the diploma or the degree that graduates receive. Perhaps most importantly, ACCSC accreditation will ensure continuous assessment of the education provided at Bakersfield.
Ultimately, accreditation is beneficial for the school, the individual, and the community. Enhancing educational standards increases growth for a school, and greater credibility creates more opportunities for its students. The combination of these outcomes will generate a more highly educated workforce for the healthcare industry. Furthermore, consistently improving healthcare will only continue to enrich the wellbeing of the community. With the accreditation of the Bakersfield campus, Unitek has taken another step forward in championing healthcare.
The Bakersfield campus maintains a Vocational Nursing program that has been approved by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians since July 20, 2010. “The ACCSC accreditation will foster this program and support the development of other nursing programs at our Bakersfield campus,” said Abdel Yosef, Chief Academic Officer at Unitek College.
