Navy Memorial to Show Stanley Cup Game 5 – Special Edition of Movies on the Memorial
WASHINGTON (PRWEB) June 06, 2018 -- The Navy Memorial will replace the previously scheduled Movies on the Memorial showing of Anchors Aweigh this Thursday with a live screening of Game 5 of the Stanley Cup on its new jumbo, outdoor movie screen.
The Navy Memorial started showing free movies every Thursday as part of its new Movies on the Memorial series. Navy-themed films, ranging from current movies to classics, are shown outside every Thursday. In case of inclement weather, the movies will be shown inside the Navy Memorial’s Burke Theater which seats 222 people.
The new movie series is an outgrowth of the popular Concerts on the Avenue series in which the United States Navy Band plays free concerts at the Navy Memorial every Tuesday evening during the summer.
“We began our new Movies on the Memorial series to show our community a little bit about the Navy in a very entertaining way,” said Rear Admiral Frank Thorp, President & CEO of the Navy Memorial. “But this week, we honor our neighbors, the Washington Capitals, and all of the fans who want to celebrate their quest for the Stanley Cup.”
The Navy Memorial’s plaza, home to the original Lone Sailor statue, contains the largest map of the world in the world, and serves as a spacious venue for fans to watch the game on the jumbo movie screen. The Navy Memorial is located at 701 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, and accessible from the Navy Memorial Metro station.
Films in the Movies on the Memorial series normally start at dusk. The Stanley Cup playoff game is scheduled to begin at 8:00pm.
Regularly scheduled Movies on the Memorial will return on Thursday, June 14th with the screening of The Hunt for Red October. The rest of the summer schedule is available at http://www.navymemorial.org.
