HARRISBURG, N.C., Jan. 11, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Local Hickory Ridge High School student Sydnee Lear was recently named the winner of Barbizon Modeling & Acting's $100,000 college tuition scholarship. The 11th grade student from Harrisburg, North Carolina is the 15th person to receive this accolade since the inception of the scholarship in 1994.
With a passion for math, Lear has goals of using the scholarship funding to attend the University of North Carolina or Georgia State University to pursue studies in actuarial science. She is driven, goal-oriented and currently participates in the HOSA Club, BETA Club, RENEWED Mentoring for Girls and many other education and community driven extracurricular activities.
When asked what makes her a good candidate for this scholarship, Lear replied "I believe that I am a good candidate because my education is one of the most important things to me. Getting this scholarship would lessen the burden that a high cost college education puts on my disabled veteran parents and makes my dream of becoming a college graduate come true."
The $100,000 College Tuition Scholarship program is funded and awarded by Barbizon Modeling and Acting every two years to support and invest in the company's core value of education. To date, $1.5 million in college scholarships have been awarded.
"We are thrilled to be able to offer this incredible scholarship opportunity to someone as deserving as Sydnee," shared Laura LaBelle, chief operating officer at Barbizon USA. "Our core mission as a company is to support kids and teens on their path to a bright future and to have the confidence and knowledge to chase after those dreams. This scholarship is one of our most valued offerings to support that mission."
