Introducing Crash Risk Predictions with Machine Learning for Telematics
Introducing the crash risk report which predicts the likelihood that fleet drivers will be involved in an accident. It is the first report in the telematics industry that uses Machine Learning to predict the probability of driver accidents.
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 27, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Fieldlogix, the provider of the first Field Resource Management platform, is pleased to announce the release of the Crash Risk report that predicts the likelihood that fleet drivers will be involved in a crash. The report is a new addition to its Driver Behavior Center. It is the first report created by a company in the telematics industry to use Machine Learning to predict the likelihood of driver accidents.
According to data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2020 4,764 fatal workplace accidents in the United States involved at least one death or an injury requiring hospitalization. These types of accidents are devastating to the victims' families and they can ruin a business financially. Vehicle accidents are one of the most significant risks to organizations with fleets. In fact, according to the FMCSA, the average fleet vehicle accident costs organizations $22,000. When injuries are involved, the average cost goes up to $331,000. Finally, if a fatality is involved, the average costs skyrocket to $7.2 million. Accidents are not only damaging to the victims, but they can tarnish an organization's brand image and significantly increase commercial insurance premiums. Accident-related costs are one of the leading causes of small business failures in the US.
In creating the Crash Risk report, FieldLogix analyzed the fleet vehicle crashes recorded throughout its telematics system from the millions of data points collected each month. A "risk model" was created as a result of this analysis that factored in risky driver behavior and local weather at the time of each crash. Each day, a driver's behavior is analyzed against the crash risk model to predict the likelihood that the driver will be involved in a crash during the next 24 to 72 hours.
This feature aims to help fleet managers make better decisions by instantly identifying drivers that may be involved in an accident. The fleet managers can then coach the riskiest drivers to help reduce the likelihood of a costly accident.
Yukon Palmer, CEO of FieldLogix states: "We launched the Crash Risk report to further assist our fleet customers in improving driver safety. We understand that fleet vehicles are a huge liability for organizations and we are focused on doing everything within our power to help them avoid accidents. This report is just the most recent investment in our Driver Behavior Center, which will significantly reduce accident-related expenses for fleets. We are actively expanding the Driver Behavior Center to make it even more powerful for organizations focused on improving driver safety."
Other safety-related features in the platform include:
- Driver Safety Scorecard: Scores drivers on aggressive driving and speeding behaviors. It is used to quickly identify which drivers need coaching and which can be rewarded. The scorecard is often used to incentivize drivers to improve driver safety.
- The Fleet Benchmark report compares a fleet's driving behavior metrics to other fleets in the same industry and region to see how each fleet stacks up against its peers.
- Safety Alerts: Set alerts for when drivers violate posted street speed limits and maximum speed violations.
- Aggressive Driving Monitoring: Monitor aggressive driving events and impact events.
- Dash Cameras: Record traffic-related events and distracted driver activities. Live stream into the cab to monitor the drivers and road activity in real-time.
Since 2002, the FieldLogix Field Resource Management Platform has helped thousands of fleet managers improve fleet safety with a rich feature set designed to improve driver behavior.
