New report spotlights the benefits of different student experiences across populations and institution types.
ARLINGTON, Va., April 21, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Hanover Research, a leading provider of data and insights to higher education leaders, has released new findings from the 2022 Higher Education Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Survey. The report provides a national snapshot of how college students view their institutions' support for DEI, multifaceted coursework, respect for different identities, and campus climate.
".. As colleges and universities aim to meet the needs of a more diverse student body, this survey provides a critical assessment of how students view their institutions' DEI efforts," says Anil Prahlad, chief research officer, Hanover Research. "We found that, while students overwhelmingly support their campus's DEI work, disparities and inclusion gaps persist for many students, particularly across the lines of race, ethnicity, gender identity, and ability. The results are clear –institutions must do more to implement DEI initiatives that improve student connection, inclusion, and respect."
Drawing from insights gathered from more than 1,000 undergraduate students representing multiple backgrounds, communities and identities, the report includes key findings on:
- The Importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Student Populations
- Students' Experiences of Inclusion and Connection
- Perceptions on Instruction and Faculty
- Needed Support and Resources for Students
"The pressure is on for higher education institutions to deliver an equitable education to all students," says Sid Phillips, chief growth officer, Hanover Research. "One of the most effective ways institutions can foster DEI is to use feedback and data to inform their strategies. Capturing and analyzing student perspectives is key to unlocking effective plans that tackle educational inequities and cultivate a welcoming environment. Our hope is that this survey will give institutions an organic account of current student perspectives to reference as they build the student experience of tomorrow."
