Sora Schools announced a major expansion today to address the growing demand for school choice, as the accredited, innovative, project-based, affordable, interdisciplinary, and global online education choice for middle and high school students.
ATLANTA, Nov. 2, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Arizona recently made history when its expanded private school Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) system officially took effect. The program allows parents of the more than 1.2 million school-age children in Arizona to be eligible to receive approximately $7000 to use for private school or other school costs. This will give parents the option to choose what type of education their children need and deserve.
Sora Schools announced a major expansion today to address the growing demand for school choice, as the accredited, innovative, project-based, affordable, interdisciplinary, and global online education choice for middle and high school students. Known for its innovative curriculum with classes such as "The Science of Marvel," "Commotion in the Ocean," "The Physics of Sharks," and "Banned Books," the school utilizes student-led learning which puts students in the driver seat of their education.
Sora has pledged to offer up to 1,000 spots in their virtual learning campuses to Arizona students. They also vow to open new Arizona faculty positions to Arizona teachers, as well as building on existing partnerships with Arizona State University and KaiPod Centers. Sora's partnership with ASU allows its high school students to earn college credits, fully funded by Sora, through the ASU Universal Learner courses. The ASU partnership also allows Sora to offer a Postgraduate program for their high school graduates. One of the most unique features of the partnership is that students who participate in Sora's postgraduate program can simultaneously qualify for automatic admission to ASU through ASU's earned admission program.
Sora will be kicking off its expansion into Arizona by conducting a faculty recruiting event on November 9 to meet with Arizona educators, and to draw the best of the best of Arizona teachers to join their faculty team. In addition, Sora will be hosting information sessions for Arizona families in mid-November. For more information visit http://www.SoraSchools.com/Arizona.
"This is a historic moment for every Arizona family. Parents are now empowered to make the best decision for their child whether that is progressive private school like Sora or a local public school," said Sora CEO, Garrett Smiley. "Sora is an accredited school where students are happier and more engaged because they are selecting the real-world classes that match their interests. Even though Sora students enjoy school, they're still building a powerful transcript for college- in fact, Sora boasts a 100% college acceptance rate. Our students are supported by caring faculty, a blend of both live and independent learning, a diverse community, and an academic journey firmly rooted in their real-world interests."
Sora is passionate about bringing a student-led education option to every student and with the expanded ESA funding plus Sora's sliding tuition scale, a Sora education will be free to students who live in households with an annual household income of $65,000 or less.
Arizona's new law is expected to increase the demand for private schools; online options like Sora present a unique and needed solution for many parents. Sora's mission is to transform student lives; to bring a meaningful, 21st century education to everyone, not just the 1%. This expanded universal ESA will put Arizona at the forefront of innovative education options--and Sora is excited to lead the way.
