The company's digital infrastructure technology will transform the future of transportation
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 17, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Integrated Roadways, a digital infrastructure technology provider, today announced that it has been named to Fast Company's second annual Next Big Things in Tech, a list that recognizes 83 technology breakthroughs that promise to shape the future of their industries over the next five years, for its Smart Pavement system.
Integrated Roadway's Smart Pavement consists of modular precast concrete sections embedded with software-upgradeable sensors that can anonymously track real-time traffic data, including traffic counts, speeds, lane usage and vehicle make, model, year and weight and much more. The slabs can provide Wi-Fi, 5G, Bluetooth, dynamic wireless EV charging and ADAS-APNT for autonomous vehicles, all managed by an ultra-low-latency edge network providing next-generation telecom services.
"It's time for America to rebuild its roads," says Tim Sylvester, founder and CEO of Integrated Roadways. "Nearly half our nation's roads need to be rebuilt from the ground up. Our roads and highways are fundamental to our economy and we're honored to be recognized for the work we're doing to transform roads into networks to enable advanced mobility and prepare cities for generations to come."
Smart Pavement is compatible with historic, current, and future vehicles, providing services like wireless EV charging and autonomous navigation in mixed traffic without special lanes or limits on types of vehicles that can access it. Smart Pavement lasts longer than traditional roads, requires less maintenance, and can sequester atmospheric carbon long-term. It's already installed in Denver as a pilot to develop the company's Traffic Data as a Service (TDaaS) technology, which collects data from the sensors embedded in the roadway. Smart Pavement will also be installed in several high-volume intersections in Lenexa, Kansas, as part of a 10-year program that will eventually expand the Smart Pavement network throughout Lenexa and the Kansas City region.
"Technology breakthroughs and cutting-edge advancements promise to be the solution to some of the world's most pressing issues. Fast Company is excited to highlight some of the organizations, of all sizes and industry backgrounds, whose technology advancements today will lead to a better tomorrow," says Brendan Vaughan, editor-in-chief of Fast Company.
