ICAST (International Center for Appropriate and Sustainable Technology), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, released a Resource Guide for the deployment of very high-efficiency heat pumps in multifamily (MF) housing.
DENVER, June 7, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ICAST is currently implementing a U.S. Dept. of Energy-funded program to catalyze the mass adoption of very high-efficiency (VHE) heat pump-based HVAC and water-heating technologies in multifamily properties, primarily multifamily affordable housing (MFAH). VHE heat pumps can help reduce residents' utility bills; cut carbon emissions, make the homes healthier, safer, and more comfortable; and preserve and improve housing affordability. Mass deployment of these systems can benefit the power grid, create local jobs, and stimulate local economic development.
ICAST created the Very High-Efficiency Heat Pumps for Multifamily Resource Guide to help multifamily owners and managers, policymakers, utilities, energy efficiency program implementers, and others advance the deployment of VHE heat pumps in multifamily housing. ICAST leads the nation in delivering VHE solutions to multifamily properties, having facilitated the installation of over 12,000 VHE systems in the last four years.
"We hope to debunk the myths and mysteries surrounding VHE heat pump installs in multifamily properties and show a path to scaling these installs. In this guide, we highlight work that has been done and needs to be done to scale the installation of VHE equipment in all multifamily properties in all geographies," said Ravi Malhotra, Founder & President of ICAST.
The Resource Guide includes:
- Fact sheets on the VHE technologies
- White papers on industry best practices for deploying VHE solutions in the multifamily sector and policy guidelines to promote VHE deployment
- Research on market, policy, and regulatory barriers to VHE deployment in multifamily housing and recommendations for overcoming those barriers
- Case studies that showcase VHE system deployments
- Information on ICAST's work to train individuals in the design and installation of VHE technologies
Though the focus of this guide is multifamily properties, it can be applied across the spectrum of buildings, from single-family homes to commercial buildings.
