Board Member, James R. Williams, Steps Up to Lead Pioneering Office-Based Surgery Company
KANSAS CITY, Mo. , Sept. 7, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- iOR Partners, the pioneer in ophthalmic office-based surgery (OBS), announced that James R. Williams has been appointed to serve as the company's new President and CEO. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Williams served on the iOR Board of Directors for two years. He originally joined iOR as Chief Operating Officer (COO) earlier this year.
Mr. Williams brings over 30 years of experience leading innovative start-ups and early-stage national healthcare delivery models in a variety of specialties and disease specific spaces. Before joining iOR, he was co-founder and CEO of Stella, a national provider of a first-time physiological treatment for PTSD. "With his extensive background in developing high-performance healthcare models that provide economic scale to geographically dispersed delivery settings, Jim has done an excellent job in building an operational structure that is well positioned to support our rapidly growing demand," stated Daniel Durrie, MD, Chairman of the Board of iOR Partners. "As CEO, he will be focused on continued payor development, iOR safety data, and the explosive growth in the industry."
The demand for cataract surgery is rapidly increasing along with the aging baby boomer population, and this will create a need for alternatives to hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). Trends suggest a shift from ASC to OBS for cataract and retina surgery as reflected in the 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule that is evaluating cataract and retina codes for OBS. iOR is poised to help cataract and retina surgeons make this transition. "We have a proven model for implementing OBS with over 18,539 procedures in iOR suites, and Jim is ready to take us to the next level of growth," said Dr. Durrie.
The imperative of iOR is the integration of clinic and surgery in one location, with the aim of increasing seniors' access to timely care, while providing the highest level of safety at a lower cost. "iOR has identified the challenges and perfected the details necessary for establishing an OBS suite that has the same efficacy and safety as any OR but is more cost effective. "Everyone wins in this model – the patient, the physician, and the payors," said Mr. Williams. "I'm excited to take the helm as President and CEO, and I look forward to leading our team as it helps cataract and retina surgeons embrace the opportunities and efficiencies inherent in the OBS model."
